Dr. Joni M. Richmond graduated from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry in 2000 and earned a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from SUNY – Buffalo and the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, New York in 2002. She has been in practice with Metropolitan Pediatric Dental Associates since July 2002.
She is an active member in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association. As part of her commitment to pediatric dentistry and organized dentistry, Dr. Richmond is also the past president of the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentists. Previously, she has also served on the executive committee of the St. Paul District Dental Society and the Committee on the New Dentist for the MDA. Learning and staying up to date on current clinical and professional topics and trends is important to Dr. Richmond; she served for six years on the Minnesota Dental Association Scientific Sessions Committee planning the Star of the North Dental Meeting. She was co-chair of the Star of the North in 2014. Dr. Richmond has also enjoyed teaching as clinical faculty at the University of Minnesota in the pediatric dental department.
In 2008, the MDA honored Dr. Richmond with the New Dentist Leadership Award.
An active volunteer, Dr. Richmond participates in ‘Give Kids a Smile’ to advocate for dental health care for every child. As another part of that mission, she has traveled to the African country of Uganda for six years as a part of the African Christian Fellowship to treat pediatric patients.
Dr. Richmond resides in Edina with her husband (also a pediatric dentist!) and their sons, Wyatt and Owen. She and her husband enjoy the challenge of getting their own children to brush and floss their teeth! Some of her favorite things to do are to go to the park with her boys, to spend time in Iowa and Colorado with family, to cook and to expand her cooking abilities and to explore the Twin Cities restaurant scene. She is also an avid Peloton rider and loves road biking with her family. She can’t wait to meet you and your child or to see you again!
